What You’ll Do

Builders is seeking a strategic, creative, and highly adaptable Head of Marketing & Communications (MarComms) to architect and lead the organization's national brand, marketing, and communications strategy. As Builders' Head of MarComms, the leader will have the opportunity to grow a team and design an approach that integrates storytelling, digital engagement, creative direction, partnership, and event marketing across programs nationwide. Early priorities include clarifying brand identity, strengthening core messaging, and incresaing national visibility as Builders enters a pivotal phase of growth.

This role is ideal for a proven marketing and communications executive who has successful built and elevated brands and who possesses a fluency across traditional and emerging media. The right candidate thrives in a start-up environment, confidently own complex situations, and tackles ambiguity. This is a hands-on role for someone who is energized by shaping brand strategy and ensuring the highest levels of execution. The leader will navigate an environment shared by multiple stakeholders, including an engaged, high-profile founder and an evolving strategic direction, and must comfortably balance input, manage changing priroities, and keep teams aligned as the work progresses. The ideal candidate is a mature confident leader with strong strategic instincts, creative vision, deep media relationships, and a passion for civic engagement.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head of MarComms will build and lead a new marketing and communications team. Starting with one direct report, this leader will recruit, develop, and mentor talent while leveraging external expertise to accelerate results. They will collaborate closely with internal partners to elevate storytelling and unify messaging, and they will cultivate high-impact external partnerships that amplify Builders' national presence. Success in this role requires agility, sound judgment, and the ability to adapt quickly to evolving internal priorities and external political dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

Brand Strategy and Leadership

  • Serve as the chief steward of the Builders brand, defining its voice, creative direction, and ensuring consistency.
  • Own and execute a bold, cross-channel marketing and communications strategy that strengthens Builders' brand, expands reach, and inspires civic action in line with our mission.
  • Seize cultural and political moments - inject Builders' voice into national conversations through timely values-driven commentary and storytelling that shift narratives toward collaboration and hope.

Integrated Marketing & Communications

  • Co-develop and execute a unified marketing and communications strategy across all channels, departments, and programs, working closely with each team lead to expand reach and mobilize civic participation.
  • Design and lead high-impact earned media campaigns, from major tentpole moments to ongoing storytelling opportunities that keep Builders in the cultural conversation.
  • Oversee all MarComms products and content development, ensuring a consistent, compelling visual and narrative identity.

Digital Growth & Analytics

  • Oversee day-to-day marketing operations, including goal-setting, budgeting, and resource allocation to maximize ROI and storytelling reach.
  • Establish clear, ambitious KPIs for reach, engagement, and impact, and deliver actionable insights to executive leadership through consistent reporting.

Partnership Marketing

  • Working alongside the Partnerships team, cultivate and manage strategic brand partnerships, media collaborations, alliances, and influencer relationships that expand Builders' reach and influence.
  • Develop MarComms strategy to showcase Builders' 350+ Movement Partners - public figures across business, politics, and education - to grow the Builders community and model Builderly behavior in a polarized media environment.

Team Leadership

  • Build and support a high-perfomring, mission-driven team, providing the clarity, coordination, and leadership needed to help the team thrive through organizational evolution.
  • Design and implement a thoughtful team structure that blends internal talent with external consults and/or agencies to expand capacity, elevate output, and meet ambitious goals.
  • Strengthen alignment between the MarComms and Media teams, by fostering shared strategy, clearer coordination, and collaborative planning without disrupting existing strengths.
